AWTE Wellness Walk around Richmond Park

We are heading out on a 15k walk around Richmond Park, Kingston-upon Thames and the Thames path on 11th October 2020, to  raise money for our 2020/2021 charity  Breast Cancer Haven.  We would normally raise funds at our Christmas Lunch (sometimes as high as £15k, hence the distance), but as this won’t be possible this year, we thought we’d go for a stroll instead.  We happy to invite members to join us and help in our fundraising efforts - just email chair@awte.org.uk if you'd like to get involved.

The charity supports the well being of both women and men who have been given a breast cancer diagnosis and it's a cause very close to our hearts as many of us have seen the consequences of the disease at close quarters.

It’s especially important to our chair, Claire, who lost a dear friend Jacquie to the disease several years ago and last summer her Mum was diagnosed with stage 2 Breast cancer.  Thankfully her Mum, Maureen, had lots of support from her family and an amazing network of friends, several of whom also battled with breast cancer and could offer great advice.  (And we are pleased to report that she’s now cancer free following surgery, radiotherapy and ongoing medication)

Not everyone has that support network and this is where Breast Cancer Haven comes in - providing support, advice and care to both patients and their families.  They support the NHS by offering everything from talking and support groups to well-being sessions like massage and yoga.
